Fluoride Therapy

Introduction

Apart from the fluoride given as part of general dental cleaning, certain individuals at high risk of dental caries will be advised to start fluoride therapy.

High risk individuals may be individuals who have a low rate of salivary flow, or some individuals that have had radiation therapy to the head and neck region. A good sallivary flow rate is essential for buffering the acid attack from decay-causing bacteria.

This involves leaving a fluoride gel on the teeth for about 30 minutes each time after brushing your teeth.
