New Patient Information

Consultation at our clinic is usually by appointment.

During the initial visit, a comprehensive consultation, followed by a clinical examination, will be performed and any radiographs or study casts may be taken to evaluate your concerns.

A short discussion will be done to evaluate your concerns and treatment needs.

Kindly come in on time for your appointment, or 5 minutes early if you are a new patient so that registration can be done before your appointment. This helps ensure that there is no or minimal disruption to other clients’ schedule.

Remember to bring along any documents relevant to your medical history e.g. the names of any drugs you may be allergic to; or old X-rays that you may have regarding previous dental treatment.

Also, if we are a panel clinic for your insurance, please inform our reception and present your insurance card for verification.

Kindly inform us at least a day ahead if your are unable to come for your appointment.

Medisave Scheme

LQ Dental has been accredited as a participating clinic for the Medisave Scheme, under the Ministry of Health (MOH) of Singapore.

Dental Medisave Scheme

Citizens and Permanent Residents of Singapore may use their Medisave account for subsidy of surgical procedures such as:

Wisdom tooth removal surgery
Dental implant surgery
Bone grafting

Procedure	Medisave Amount Claimable

Dental implant surgery	$1250
Bone grafting	$1250 to $2350

These claim amounts are just a guide. The actual amount will be discussed and will also be dependant on the amount released from Medisave.

Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS)

LQ dental is a participating CHAS-subsidy clinic.

The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) enables Singapore Citizens from lower or middle income households to receive subsidies for medical and dental care at participating medical and dental clinics.

Singapore Citizens who qualify for CHAS will receive an individual blue or orange Health Assist card.

To qualify for CHAS, applicants must be Singapore Citizens and meet the following criteria:

For households with income, the household monthly income per person must be $1,800 and below^*.
For households with no income, the Annual Value (AV) of home must be $21,000 and below^{^}.

^* Household monthly income per person is the total gross household monthly income divided by total number of family members living together. Gross monthly income refers to your basic income, overtime pay, allowances, cash awards, commissions and bonuses.

^{^} AV is assessed by IRAS. An AV up to $21,000 covers all HDB flats and some lower-value private residences.

Members of the public who are on Public Assistance (PA) scheme do not need to apply as they are already eligible for CHAS.

Pre-Surgery Information

The procedure will be explained and a consent form will need to be endorsed prior to surgery.

The dental surgeon may also instruct the assistant to give some pre-medication before the surgery.

Things to note:

If you are taking aspirin, please discontinue 7 days prior to surgery.
If you are taking blood thinning medication, please discontinue 7 days prior to surgery.
If there is a need for antibiotics to be taken before surgery in patients who have pre-existing heart conditions, please come in an hour before the procedure to take the antibiotics.

IV Sedation Instruction List

These IV SEDATION instructions are for your safety, so please read over them very carefully.

You should not have ANYTHING to eat or drink at least 7-8 hours before the surgery. This includes water. If you take regular medications, you may take them as usual with a small sip of water. After your surgery procedure, you may eat at any time.
Come to the hospital with a Responsible Adult, who will take you home after your surgery.
If you wear contacts, remove them before you come to the surgery.
If you have dentures, a partial plate or removable bridgework and you must wear it the day of your surgery, please bring a container to store it in during your surgery.
Call the clinic at 65380890 if you have developed a Cold or are feeling unwell before your surgery.
Surgery appointments with general anesthesia or IV sedation are scheduled with an anesthetist. If you must cancel your surgery, it is very important that you notify the clinic AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. As we have to pay the anesthetist for his time, a no-show will incur a cost directly payable to the anesthetist for his allotted time.
The instructions 1 and 2 are for your SAFETY; if they are not followed, we must cancel your surgery.
Full payment or the deposit remainder will be required on the day of surgery. Please be prepared for this. If you have any questions, please call the office ahead of time.

Instructions Following Surgery

Bleeding

Do not be concerned if traces of blood are noted in the saliva for several hours after the operation.

Do not rinse the mouth vigorously for the first few hours as disruption of the clot may occur.

It is best to avoid hot food or liquids up to 24 hours after the surgery.

Avoid hard exercise for about 3 days after surgery

Some extra gauze will be given to you. If bleeding occurs, bite on the gauze for 20-30 minutes. Repeat once more if it has not stopped.

Call the clinic if EXCESSIVE bleeding is still occurring.
Pain

You may have moderate discomfort after the anaesthesia wears off. Panadol should be enough to lower the pain. If any painkillers or anti-inflammatories were provided, use as instructed.
Antibiotics

Antibiotics may have ben prescribed. It is important these be taken as directed and to finish the entire course.
Swelling

In some cases, swelling is to be expected. Ice packs may be used to minimize this by applying it to the outside of the area affected for 30 mins on, 30 mins off for the first 3-4 hours.

If swelling persists into 2nd or subsequent days, WARM wet compresses with a towel 20 mins on, 40 mins off for 2 hours each day.
Oral Hygiene

Meticulous oral hygiene should be continued in all other areas of the mouth, but the area of the surgery should be avoided to prevent the dislodging of the surgical dressing or clot. Gentle rinsing after meals with a warm salt water rinse is sufficient. You should continue to brush your teeth in other areas of the mouth.

You may start to brush around the surgical site gently after about 2 days.
Nutrition

Maintaining an adequate diet after surgery is important. You can chew on the opposite side of the mouth and avoid hard, or spicy foods. Some advisable foods:
- Broth or soups
- Ice Cream
- Eggs
- Chopped or ground meat
- Tofu
- Milkshakes
- Soft Bread
You will assist the healing response by observing the following:
- Maintain an adequate home hygiene regime
- Eliminate smoking and/or alcohol consumption. These delay the healing mechanism
